Dynamics 365 Enterprise edition is optimized to meet the complex requirements of mid-sized and larger businesses, the Enterprise edition combines ERP and CRM capabilities from the former Microsoft Dynamics AX and Microsoft Dynamics CRM solutions to offer a powerful, scalable cloud-based business platform to support even the most complex organizations.
Offering a full suite of customer engagement solutions (Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, PSA, and Field Service) and operational solutions (Finance, Operations, Human Capital Management) the Enterprise edition helps organizations consolidate all core business activities onto a single common platform and data model.
Dynamics 365 Enterprise Edition customers are given the choice of licensing by application or to use functionality across the suite via a role-based licensing alternative. But there's more: There also will be the option to license Dynamics 365 via "plans", which are groups of apps that can be used by all "plan" users when purchased together. In most cases, we would strongly recommend either Customer Engagement Plan or Dynamics 365 Plan for anyone who is considered a Full User.
Customer Engagement Plan in Dynamics 365 Enterprise Edition includes all the applications that was a part of Dynamics CRM Online. This means Customer Engagement Plan covers Sales, Field Service, Customer Service, Project Service Automation and Marketing except Operations. Using PowerApps, Customer Engagement Plan also allows for some extensibility. Extensibility in Dynamics 365 make it highly contextual–therefore, Customer Engagement Plan users will only be able to create custom business solutions that span the solutions covered under Customer Engagement Plan.
In addition, Customer Engagement Plan also provides access to a portal to extend engagement across customers, partners, and employees. Additional portals, instances, and storage are available as add-ons.
One of the other key differentiators in Customer Engagement Plan, is that they have tiered pricing, that reduces marginal cost per user subscription as the number of subscriptions in an account increases. Tiered pricing is only available in Customer Engagement Plan and Enterprise Team Member licenses.
With a marginal increase in price, you could have all business applications in Customer Engagement Plan, plus access to financial, supply chain, and commerce solutions. That's because Dynamics 365 Plan is essentially Customer Engagement Plan + the Operations solution. So, for those employees of your organization that need access to those operational capabilities, it’s the best option to go.
Dynamics 365 Plan also gives you full extensibility using PowerApps. This is a key distinction if you are considering just using the Operations app for standalone licenses. Keep in mind, extensibility through PowerApps is contextual, based on which applications you are licensed to use. Access to every application in the Enterprise Edition is offered only in Dynamics 365 Plan. In addition, Dynamics 365 Plan also provides two non-production sandboxes and 100 GB of file storage. Additional sandboxes and storage options can be bought as add-ons.
Application and Team Member licensing are other ways to share knowledge and provide valuable insights across your business. Both options provide different strengths for users in Dynamics 365 Enterprise edition.
Predominantly, in most cases, we would recommend a Full User consider a Plan prior to purchasing individual application licenses, but except for the Operations app, as it contains all functionality of Dynamics AX (AX7). However, though there is a small price difference between the Operation app and Dynamics 365 Plan, there is considerable decrease in flexibility while opting for licencing by App only.
Users who are termed as Team Members can perform all the tasks once allocated for “Enterprise Users”, at a fraction of the cost, especially when tiered pricing opportunities are factored in. This helps your organization to save a lot of money on the licensing front.
